MacRitchie Walk

We took the children on a hike through MacRitchie Reservoir to the TreeTop Walk last October.

What we estimated would take us only two hours or so turned into a four hours hike as the children stopped often to wow over the nature's treasures that we find along the way. Luckily we prepared some food and were able to stop for a picnic at the tower.

Near the beginning of the trail, we saw what we thought were red berries on a shrub. On closer look, it's this little red insect.

The children were amused by this pair of lovers next to the boardwalk!

This hairy little fellow was sunning itself when we happened upon it.
A crowd soon formed as the passers-by stopped to take pictures of the caterpillar.

The ants were pretty huge in the forest. These were about an inch long.

Near the end of the trail, we came across this beautiful butterfly, the "eyes" on its wings staring at you unblinkingly.

Qing Ming Jie (Tomb Sweeping Day)

My husband decided to pay respect to his deceased father on Easter Day. I have never met his father, who passed away a few years before we got married.

My husband is an only son, so getting the necessary offerings naturally falls on me. Sometimes I wonder what he did before he married me. Who bought the offerings? Did he?

After an early breakfast at the market, we bought the necessary offerings and went to the Shuang Lin Temple, where his father's remains were kept.

Since this day was not the actual Qing Min Jie, there was relatively no crowd at the temple and we were able to make pay our respect in comfort.

After the offering, we took a walk around the temple, which was quite peaceful and refreshing. The children enjoyed themselves and it was also a great opportunity to teach the children our roots.

Since it was quite a hot day, we went home after a short stroll in the gardens. Well, we will visit the temple again, on my father-in-law's deathn anniversary.

Setting up my first blog ... hey, my first post!

Gee, it's not that difficult after all. Setting up a blog, that is.

I have never been IT savvy and trying to set up a blog without any help seems very daunting but there are now so many sites that allow you to set up one - handheld all the way.

I'm glad I tried it.

This will be where I keep a record of the things that happened in my life, the ups and downs, the laughter, the triumphs as I make my living here in the Lion City.
